LCAs help evaluate where the majority of the environmental impacts are coming from in the life of products, identify which materials are environmentally preferable and how design changes impact products’ footprints. Participants will learn what an LCA is and what questions they can help answer. Multiple case studies will be presented, with ample discussion and class exercises.
Participants in this session will be able to: (1) Understand the concept of life cycle thinking and how it can be applied to any product or service; (2) Identify how organizations are using LCA and what questions it can help answer; and (3) Apply the learnings from this course to their professions and/or studies.
Topics include Life Cycle Thinking, Why LCA?, Goal and Scope, Inventory Analysis, Impact assessment, and Interpretation.
The LCA 101 course will run from 10 am (ET) to 3 pm (ET) with a 1-hour lunch break.
